This sum\u00admer I got to know Ga\u00eb\u00adtan and his story is so\u00adme\u00adthing that needs to be shared. Ga\u00eb\u00adtan is the very first Swiss male Doula and we spoke about his mo\u00adti\u00adva\u00adtion to in\u00advest over 1000 hours into this trai\u00adning while ac\u00adtually be\u00ading a lawyer. <\/em><\/p>\n

Being a father of two changes you<\/h3>\n

First things first. What is a Doula? The short ver\u00adsion of Wi\u00adki\u00adpe\u00addia says: \u00abA doula is a trai\u00adned com\u00adpa\u00adn\u00adion who is not a he\u00adalth\u00adcare pro\u00adfes\u00adsio\u00adnal and who sup\u00adports an\u00ado\u00adther per\u00adson th\u00adrough child\u00adbirth\u00bb. I, of course, wan\u00adted to un\u00adder\u00adstand what made Ga\u00eb\u00adtan de\u00adcide to be\u00adcome such a trai\u00adned com\u00adpa\u00adn\u00adion. Ga\u00eb\u00adtan hims\u00adelf is a fa\u00adther of two and wants to be an equal pa\u00adrent. He and his wife ex\u00adpe\u00adri\u00aden\u00adced two very dif\u00adfe\u00adrent pregnan\u00adcies and birth sto\u00adries. While the first one en\u00added in an emer\u00adgency C\u2011section, they both spent time pre\u00adpa\u00adring the 2nd birth to ful\u00adfil his wife\u2019s wish for a na\u00adtu\u00adral va\u00adgi\u00adnal birth. Du\u00adring this time, Ga\u00eb\u00adtan lis\u00adtened to a lot of fa\u00adthers\u2018 pod\u00adcasts on the to\u00adpic of be\u00adco\u00adming a fa\u00adther. A com\u00admon con\u00adclu\u00adsion of these pod\u00adcasts was the lack of pre\u00adpa\u00adra\u00adtion for fa\u00adthers who want to be an equal pa\u00adrent (or a pa\u00adrent at all). Sub\u00adcon\u00adsciously the idea for Papa Doula star\u00adted to form.<\/p>\n

How did he decide to become the first Swiss male Doula?<\/h3>\n

Ha\u00adving a PhD in law, a pa\u00adtent to prac\u00adtice law in Ge\u00adn\u00adeva, Ga\u00eb\u00adtan is well aware of how im\u00adportant it is for us to have a pro\u00adfes\u00adsio\u00adnal cer\u00adti\u00adfi\u00adcate to be re\u00adco\u00adgni\u00adzed as le\u00adgi\u00adti\u00admate. The first Doula trai\u00adning he wan\u00adted to join was ab\u00adso\u00adlut\u00adely im\u00adpos\u00adsi\u00adble for him. The kil\u00adling pre\u00adre\u00adqui\u00adsite was \u00abha\u00adving gi\u00adven birth yours\u00adelf\u00bb. Ho\u00adwe\u00adver, once he found a trai\u00adning, he spent the next six month lear\u00adning ever\u00ady\u00adthing about the fe\u00admale body, pregnancy, child\u00adbirth and much more.<\/p>\n

The feeling of being the only man in the room becomes normal<\/h3>\n

Be\u00ading the only wo\u00adman in the room so many times, I can ima\u00adgine how Ga\u00eb\u00adtan felt when he wal\u00adked in the Doula course room the first time. Ad\u00addres\u00adsing the ele\u00adphant in the room and be\u00ading the kind and fri\u00adendly hims\u00adelf, he was quickly ac\u00adcepted. Th\u00adroug\u00adhout the trai\u00adning his vi\u00adsion of \u00abPapa Doula\u00bb was for\u00admed fur\u00adther. Ga\u00eb\u00adtan de\u00adve\u00adlo\u00adped a work\u00adshop for be\u00adco\u00adming fa\u00adthers that co\u00advers in four ses\u00adsi\u00adons \u00e0 3hours the most im\u00adportant to\u00adpics on pregnancy, child\u00adbirth, and post-par\u00adtum.
